About Ramona Clay

RAMONA CLAY TELLS MOODY, MELODIC, AND SOULFUL STORIES WITH A ROCK FAÇADE AND CLASSICAL INTENTIONS.

Ramona Clay is an alternative rock collective hailing from the vibrant musical landscape of Kansas City, Missouri. With their distinct fusion of the raw energy of rock and classical influences, their music weaves an intricate sonic tapestry that resonates deeply with audiences.

Frontperson and songbird Katerina Jae, classically trained on the b flat clarinet, classical acoustic guitar, and piano, brings a wealth of musical expertise to the collective. When she’s not fronting Ramona Clay or her high-energy rock band Interstate Run, she enjoys listening to Joywave, Run River North, Mazzy Star, Woodkid, Muse, Elton John, Lana del Rey, Young the Giant, Portishead, Radiohead, and Ray LaMontagne.

Tim Jenkins, a veteran KC guitarist with an extensive musical background, has contributed his talents to various projects including Cargo Van, Be/Non, Scarecrow Vapors, Lonnie Fisher and the Funeral, The Red Moon Junkies, The Clementines, Fransen, The Jake Lacquey Band, and The End of Times Band. With a deep passion for 60s psych, 70s Prog, and 90s Grunge, Tim brings a wide range of influences to the band, shaping Ramona Clay's sonic landscape with his distinctive lead guitar work.

Guitarist, Cody Calhoun, well-known as the long time lead guitar player and co-songwriter for the Psych/ Soul band Black Light Animals is the newest addition to Ramona Clay. A music nerd in the truest sense, he is interested in various musical genres but his playing is most influenced by guitarists like Jimmy Page, Slash, and David Gilmour.

Bassist Brad Padley, an American musician and multi-instrumentalist, adds his unique flavor to Ramona Clay's sound. Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Brad's musical journey spans across multiple genres. From his roots in old-time country to his punk rock and ska upbringing, Brad's musical palette is diverse. Known for his energetic and sometimes chaotic stage performance, Brad's presence on rhythm guitar creates a wild and unpredictable ride for the audience. He has been deeply involved in the Kansas City music scene since 2006 and continues to explore new territories both locally and on the road.

Trombonist Kevin Stiles is a low brass player who was born and raised in Kansas City. His previous musical experiences have included playing in brass ensembles, chamber ensembles and orchestras. When not playing Trombone with Ramona Clay he can be found restoring musical instruments for musicians all over the country as part of the team at Heritage Music Repair in midtown Kansas City.

Drummer Alex Boyd likes hanging with his buds, making noise and fighting for social justice. He’s played in all kinds of bands around town from punk rock to indie pop to blues over the last 23 odd years. His biggest pet peeve is guitar players who tell him the speed of a song is wrong. His all time favorite band is Tegan and Sara and favorite local is Johnny Lawhorn and the Pentagram String Band.

Together, Katerina Jae, Tim Jenkins, Cody Calhoun, Brad Padley, Kevin Stiles, and Alex Boyd form Ramona Clay, a collective dedicated not only to their craft but also to decreasing mental illness stigma and increasing access to evidence-based mental health treatment. Join Ramona Clay as they use their artistry to break down barriers, foster compassion, and create a space where authentic connections and emotional journeys thrive.
